Build of the week

Each week I will highlight something interesting (to me at least) going on in the shop. New builds, new ideas, new people in the business, who knows? Check back each week to see what's happening in My Woodworking Garage.

Build of the Week

This was one of my favourite builds so far.  A client send me a picture of her sunroom (which was turquoise) and ask if I could make a swirl board to match the room. I choose a unique piece of walnut and poured the turquoise epoxy from one end and the white from the other.  I used a popsicle stick to make the swirls and it looked fantastic.  I came back and hour or so later and realized the epoxy has settled and my swirl was gone. Urgh! After about 5 attempts of this process the epoxy was finally set enough and the swirl pattern held giving me this final result.  My wife says it has a calming ocean effect and the client was thrilled with the end result.
Side note: In case you are wondering why I skipped a week we recently brought a new puppy home.

This charcuterie board was custom made to the client's specifications.  She picked out the style of the board (edge epoxy), the type of wood (walnut) and the epoxy (pearl white).  This board was custom engraved with "Canuck Cottage" because it is being sent to England as a gift for a transplanted Canadian. I always find it interesting when doing a board with epoxy to see how it turns out because it is always so different.  Let me know if there is a custom board in your future.

These cool little bunnies were an idea my wife had for spring/ Easter.  Using some rustic walnut I picked up from Solid Edge Wood Products and some other lumber I had lying around the shop I was able to create these unique pieces.  The key to making them stand out is trying to lay them out to maximize the uniqueness of the wood.  These decorations can stand on their own or as a part of an arrangement with other spring items. I have named them floppy ears, long ears and short ears.  Both longs ears and floppy ears are approximately 28 cm's high and short ears is 20 cm's high. Priced at $20 each, 2 for $35, 3 for $45.  Contact me to learn more.
